Bitchener (chairman), AY. F. Clicvcrton, \V. J{. Campbell, R. IV, Bowie, T. \V. Sattorthwaite, R. Grain. l\ A. Morgan, and Rev. J. H. Rogers' J'lie chairman welcomed Mr Rogers to a seat on the Board. Referring i\ jhc schools, he said that tho work at both tho GirJs' and tho Boys' school ap. (leared to be on most satisfactorily. Reference was also niado l>y Mr Bitchener to the death of Mr R. 11. Rhodes, of whom lie spoke in the highest terras. Mr Rhodes had done quite a great deal of public work and had done it well. He (the speaker) had sat under liim'as chairman of the Waitnate County Council, and could say that a letter chairman could not he desired. A motion of sympathy, was, by silent vote, passed to Mrs and Miss Rhodes. The Rector (Mr W. Thomas) reported that the school cadet- companies had just come out of a four-days' Farracks of Instruction. Tho day boys slept at home but had their meals at the school. Major Conway was 0.C., with Captain Oakery, M.C, econd in command. Or; the last day Major Morrison inspected the camp. Tho school had benefited beyond anticipation by the Barracks. Hecould uot help being struck by the serious attitude adopted by the cadets, their anxiety to a«quit themselves creditably, and their powers of withstanding fatigue. As a school they felt deeply .indebted to Major Conway and Captain Oakey for Uieir helpful instruction und tho completeness of their arrangements. The number of boarders at the Rectory was 87.Hc had been compelled to refute several applicants owing to lack of accommodation. The Board should decid-j whether additions were to bo added for next year. The terai holidays would commence on August 29. Mr J. Brown, of tho Agricultural Department, had promised that his Department -would have largo experimental plots in the immediate neighbourhood of tho school during tho coming season.
Miss B. M. Watt, lady principal, reported that the school work had gone on steadily through tho term. Somo more sewing machines were required for tho sewing class. Tho capitation would easily cover the cost.
Mr _W. Satterthwaite. for the finance committee, reported that both schools had been visited by the committee. They reported on various details, and recommended that owing to tho high price of firewood seven or eight trees should be cut down on the east side of the girls* school grounds. Owing to the janitor (Mr Koseveore) being passed for CI. camp they recommended that applications be called for a temporary janitor. The report was adopted. The steward of reserves (Mr W. Hide) reported on inspections he. had made of the Board's reserves in the Temuka district.
Mr D. J. Pemherton, one* of the Board's tenants at Clandeboye, wrote complaining of a blocked drain spoiling a substantial area of his farm.
It wasdco ; dedthatas-"'tisa boundary drain' which is causing the trouble, tho two tenants affected must clean it, or the Board will do tho work at their expense. Accounts -were passed for payment and the Board rose.
