TEMUKA ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY'MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Teniuka ' Road Board was held on Thursday. Present—Mesrs D. Grunt (chairman), G. Smart, J. J. ! Ellis, A. 11. Guild, and G: McCullough. The chairman stated that during tho month the receipts were £72 3s Id. The rates collected to date amount to £4152 0s 9d, outstandng £147 ,'7s. After the day's payments had been met the credit balance would be £IIS7 Is 7d. Among the correspondence there were two letters from Rangitata Island ratepayers asking for improvement to he road from Badham's road and 1 iio ford.—Attended to. The Rangitata Island River Board wrote protesting against the Road Board's attempting to divert ai y water from the south to the niiddlo stream of lie river. Messrs Raymond. Raymond and Campbell, on account of Mr Brodie,: a ratepayer on the Island, al&o wrote in. protest, as the diversion was not to bsneiit a road, but landowners on the south side of the river.— Botli letters were received. The overseer reported on the ivor:i done and in hand, and on his iccommendations it was agreed to n-vt a flat concrete stock and motor 11 :'dge on Moore's road when c<<n,veni'£Qs; lb have new pipes inserted near M-" Jrwood's on Mr Inwood agreeing to pay half cost; a pipe culvert to be put iin Milford road near Mr Brooklarul's on his killing willowsirear the o-itlat iihi' paying 4Us towards the cost. Mr G. Stewart offered to pay half cost of a new drain near Mr Palmer —This work to be done. The Board agreed to pay for 15ft of gateway pipes for Mr J. Berry, Mr Berry to keep them clear of w'.llow rfeots. It was decided to suo for all outstanding rates after May Ist. ; Accounts amounting to £257" 3s 7d were passed for payment, and £1 Is wais voted to tho Piunlcet Society. The day men asked for. a rise in wages, and tho overseer suggested "hat they be paid lis a day, or 10s wet or dry. The annual meeting was fixed for May 2nd, and the election for May 7th, nominations to be in by May Ist. Messrs D. Grant, C. .Smart, and A. R. Guild are tho retiring members of the Board this year.
