| OFFICIAL VERDICT. \ ON LOST CONVOY. ' 'Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. Received 11.35 p.m., Jan. 15th. LONDON, Jan. 14. Sir Eric Geddes, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated that the Admiraltyconfirmed tho finding of the Court of Inquiry, that escorting vessels did fiieir besfc to protect the Scandinavian convoy, which met with disaster (cabled J7tli December). Tho escort fought '"u ti proper seamanlike manner, &nd the covering forces took ail possible steps to come to their assistance and prevent tho escape of the enemy. The Board expressed the opinion that the circumstances preventing the covering forces arriving in time were unpresentable. Sir David Beatty's disposition was the best possible with tho available forces.
