TIMARU TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

« ■—- ■».■ ■ : MOTOR CAR CLASS. The members of the motor car classes met in, Robinson's Garage on Monday, evening and presented the inat>ruotor, : Mr C. E. Margin, wflth a handsome pair of driving gloves and a cigarette case in appreciation of the work he had done in teaching th© class, Mr W. Tubb, in making the presentation, congratulated Mr Martin on the success of the class. They had attended it for the purpose of learning something about a oar and had not been disap* pointed. He had himself driven a car for a year or two, bu't had found out how li'ttle he knew and the information he had gained would prove vary use* , ful. He also thanked Mr Robinson' of the Garage Royal, for kindly placing the- use of his garage at the dis» posal of Mr Martin for the use of theclass. Mr John Moodie and Mr M. Mulliii also spoke in appreciation of Mr Martin as. an instructor. The Director, Mr G. Moffat, sad that! he was well pleased wifth the way in' which Mr Martin had conducted the class. The Technical School had several times made attempts to get a class of 'this kind going, but owing tor the expense of obtaining a ear for demonstrating the attempts had to be abandoned. At 'the beginning of the year he had got in touch with Mr Martin, amd found that he had the* qualifications for running a> class and through the kindness of The Colonial. Motor Company in lending the school a chassis free aof charge he was able to get a start and the class was a greater success than he anticipated. Having •now found a capable engineer in Mr Martin he hoped to start classes in' mecbanildal engineering and in electricity and magnje'tism; but that would 1 depend on the number of pupils desiring to take up this kind of work. They must start in a, small way because jt'i would take several hundred poundw toequip an engineering workshop, but if the desire for this class of instruction, was shown by a number of students no doubt it would lead to a properly equipped workshop in time. He intimated thnlfc lie was arranging for a break up social for the puoils at art early date at which be would be pleased to see a full attendance of the motor " car class.
