RECRUITING AGE. OPPOSITION TO REDUCTION. From Our Own Correspondent. "WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. It may be practically taken for granted that the majority of members of the House will resist to their utmost the proposal to bring nineteen-year-old boys under the compulsion section of the Military Service Act. If the proposal is insisted upon one condition will be severe medical inspection and training conditions whicih will try out the youngsters to the uttermost limits. It is also considered by members that the boys should not be called up until after the first section of the Second Division lins boon called up; namely married men without Family. A general feeling is expressed in the lobbies that a Bill conscripting boys will not have the slightest chance of passing unless some of the older men w't'iout responsbilities are first called up.

EXECUTIVE OF SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE. STRONGLY PROTEST AGAINST REDUCTION. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 13. The Central Executive of t-Jio Federated Second Division Leagues passed the following resolution:—"That this meeting, speaking in the name of the federated Sooond Division Leagues oJ New Zealand, records its emphatic protest against the rumoured intent, ; on q: the Government to lower tho age of conscription to nineteen, and exp esses strong disapproval of any on being allowed to go forth that Now Zealand has had to fall back on tho young lads in the country in order to carry on its part in the war. as such would be absolutely contrary to fact and a deplorable indication of official mWudanvent; and further, tho T/earrue Calls upon the Government to turn a deaf ear to all counsels of timidity inspired by financial interests, and to legslate without further delay for tho adequate provision of dependents of soldiers, so that the Second Division room may immediately set about pro. paving for active service."
