\,TYCHO'PARMER'S MISHAP.

The many friends 'of Mr Walter Blackwood, farmed- of Tycho Flat, will lie sorry to hear that he meib with a painful accident on Saturday- evening la»t about midnight, when proceeding home ft ran Timaru. , The evening was a very stormy one, a' strong nor'-west wind blowing. Mr Blackwood's horse took fright in a. cloud of dust and threw him out of the gig on to the road. After the accident the injured man managed with difficulty to -walk to. Mr .W. McCain's residence, where he was at once attended to by them. Mr R. J McKeown was then sent for a.nd he at ence went to Timaru for Dr. Burns and the- ambulance' van; When Dr. Burns arrived he found tlje sufferer had a fj.h 'Broken, and he ordered his removal ' to Sister MoArthur's private hospital, Timaru. The latent news yesterday was that Mr Blackwood is progressing as well as could be expected. A DANGEROUS CORNER Another accident occurred a.b the corner of North and Rhodes streets yesterday afternoon when two cyclists collided there, and one ofHhem, Mr G. Broad, of Archer Street, who fell heavily on to the road, sustained a. fracture of the base of the skull. A member of St. John Ambulance rendeied first aid until the arrival of n medical man; when the sufferer was taken to his 'home in the ambulance van. ■ So far asvcould be seen no blame was attachable to anyone for the accident. The corner is a very dangerous one, and has been the, scene of a nunfoer of accidents as well as of many narrow escapes from accident.

THREE BOATS UPSET. TWO LIVES LOST. (Per Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, April 2. A drowning fatality occurred at Lake Brunner yesterday, wherebv Charles Hornsby, a, married /man, 50 years of age, and Emil Lyberg, 15 years of age, lost their lives. Three sailing boats were on the lake when a sudden squall arose and the whole three boalts were upset. The other occupants were resfcuecp with 'the greatest difficulty. The bodies have not been recovered.
