MILFORD LAGOON.
MEETING OF PICNIC COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Milford Lagoon, Association was field on Wednesday evening. Present—Messrs G. W. Arinitage (president), J. Pike>. J. Daily, C. J. Bitton, J. Oliver, W. Grant, T. Til brook, G. Booth, T. Lawlor, J. Cope, M. Horgan, and J. Leckie (secretary). The balance sheet of the annual picnic showed the following receipts:— £65 16s (id, the chief items being, gates £2O 2s 6d, pictures £lO 2s, two Maori collections £lO Os 9d. The expenditure amounted .to £l6 ss, leaving a balance tf £49 lis 6d to dispose of. After some'discussion, in which Mr E.Booth and'Mr .T.. Tilbrook spoke in favour of giving' something to' the Y.M.C.A., the money was disposed of as follows:—Red Cross Society £l7, South Canterbury War Relief Society £lO, Maori Soldiers' Relief Fund (per Mrs Walker) £lO 6s lOd, (per Mrs Torepe) £7 4s 8d; Y.M.C.A. £5. Total, £49 lis 6d. A hearty vote, of thanks- was passed to.Messrs W. Blyth, G. H. Bryant (Geraldine), Mr Donald (Timaru), and the ladies of the Red Cross Society, for the assistance given a,t the picnic. Mi - J. Leckie spoke highly of the way the natives worked for the success of the picnic, and a special vote of thanks was passed to them. Messrs W. Grant, J. Leckie and T. Lawlor were appointed a committee to] consider the levelling of'•"'■the sports i ground at the Lagoon. ■ I The necessity for postponing the function from the Ist to . the 2nd ■ of January was .discussed, and • on the motion of Mr E. Booth, seconded by Mr T. Lawlor, the action of the secretary was confirmed; he was oongraitulated on the success achieved considering the difficulties he had to meet, and was voted an honorarium'of £5 5s
