PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr H. Liardet, New Zealand manager for the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation was in Timaru on Wednesday and Thursday, on his way to Invercargil!. It was mentioned in this coimnn yesterday that Dr. Rowley had obtained a Lieutenant's Commission in the Dental Corps. Mr S. 35. Osborne obtained a similar commission at the same time, and both are to report themselves in camp next Monday. The other dentists of Timaru gave" them both a congratulatory send-off last nigliti. as they leave to-day en route for a North Island Camp. With reference to the death of the Rev. Charles Penney, Methodist minister. Reef ton, it appears that he was visiting one of his congregation at Black's Point, when he complained of feeling unwell, and died almost,,immediately. The funeral took place at' Reefton on. Tuesday morninpc. and was vory larselv attended. A service was conrlnctod in the oTraroh by the Rev. W. Baumber, of Nelson, and at the jrravesido Bishop Sadlier (who was visitiun Reef ton') and the Anglican and Presbyterian ministers also took nart in the service. TheJiate Mr Penney, who was a native of Cornwall, was 66 years of. age, and. bad been 41 years in the ministry in New Zealand.
