BECAUSE—As has been pointed out by practical men of recognised authority;— I.—The supply of Phosphates in the average soil of the South Island is very limited. This fertiliser is guaranteed to contain IS per cent, of Phosphoric Acid in a form readily and completely available. 2.—The continuous use of Acid Manures such, as Superphosphates or Animal Manures, while increasing the supply of phosphates, is a heavy drain on the supply of lime, which is the chief agent in the soil- for neutralising acids. 3—-Where the supply of lime is limited, the use of such manures will make the soil acid in time, rendering it an unsuitable medium for growing many of our best plants-, such as clover. 4.—"Rockland" Basic Phosphate is largely an alkali manure containing acousiderable portion of lime. It not only helps to liberate the potash and nitrogen in the soil, but tends to coun teract acidity and sourness. 5-—Unlike Basic Slag, it remains dry and is easy to handle and distribute. C. —In an ordinary season its effect is shown in a very short time. Although the phosphates are supposed to be only in a serei-jsolublc condition, experience shows that they become quickly soluble Again in/the soil, thus giving practically immediate results.
