Counsel for the defendant union adrnittod that a technical strike had occurred owing to the Union's mistaken belieif tliat overtime could be prohibited.
At Auckland yesterday a deputation waited on 'elm Hon. J. A. Hanan, headed by Mr Richards, secretary of the Waterside Workers' "Union, and asked for a remission of the sentence on Oliver Noakes, a member of the union, who is undergoing eleven months' imprisonment for conduct calculated to interfere with the loading of a vessel and using threatening language 'to another wateride worker. It was urged that the sentence was excessive. Tim Minister said he did not approve in general d? interfering M-ilch the decision of Stipendiary Magistrates. Tit Noakes's case an appeal had been iodized that closed his mouth, nut he would oblain documents find the matter every consideration. The Minister was asked to expedite the hearing ot the appeal.

Tn a letter to the Waimate Borough Council read at last night's meeting, Major Francis stated that though he would not stand for reflection as mayor of Waimate on account of his military duties tying him' to Wellington, he proposed to accept re-nomina-tion for, the Timaru Harbour Board, as' the chairman and members had requested him to do so.
