N,B.W, ELECTIONS.

VICTORY FOR. SANE GOVERNMENT. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) SYDNEY, March 26. The election has aroused a keen, inIterest in the other States. The result is accepted as an indication of the forthcoming Commonwealth struggle. The "Herald" gives the state of the parties as Nationalise, 49: Political Labour, 30, and uncertain 11. The "Daily Telegraph" states that there are Nationalists, 49; Political Labour, 33; Independent, 1; doubtful, 1, and Second Ball do, 8. The "Herald," in a leader, says the victory is a Nationalists' victory for a sane Government on well ordered progressive lines. The evidence shows that while the State, is thoroughly democratic in thought it abhors extremists of either side, and lias no confidence in men who would destroy institutions and out of the ruins seek to erect an anarchic . stalte. , Tiie "Telegraph" in a leader says the State has reason to congratulate itself on securing a sane, sit able Government free of some secret .taskmaker in the shape of the caucus. ALL MINISTERS SAFE. POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE'S DEFEAT. Mr David Storey says he is not exactly satisfied with the results. He thought bis naAy, would have done, considerably better. Mr Meaghei- attributes his defeat largely. to tlie foetid venomous sectarian issue; The "Herald" noints out that though direct Labour has increased in the number cf ' supporters ' which it had after the recent conscription, split came, the result of the election pu'ts the Political Labour League back to, where 'it stood t-sn years ago at the beginning of the Labour rise to power. A feature of til emoting was that all the second ballot victories oi: the Labour Party in the metropolis in, 1910 turned round upon them. Of Jche. old Labour Party Mr Waddelly was the only one to suffer defeat, but in the. Nationiist section the old Labour/ Party suffered considerably, losing nine seats to the Political Labour League. The "latest figures leave? the' posiltion unaltered. All Ministers are safe. , CAUCUS .PARTY- DEFEATED,. , REMARKS BY MR. HUGHES. Received 9*45 p.m., March 26. / SYDNEY, March 26. Mr Hughes, commenting on the election, said the Caucus party had suffered a wholesome defealc. They had been living in a fool's jjaradise since the referendum. The light of day ha,d now pierced tlio mist through . which they had imagined they saw . the promised land. They now found themselves a hopelessly discredited, par I ty. Kahibali, which yesterday was, included in tho P.L.L. wins, is still in doubt. A second ballot is required, and there is a possibility of Edden, a Labour Nationalist, retaining it. With the absentee vote still'to count, there is a bare possibility thaifc Mr Waddell will not be ousted from. Lvdhurst seat.
