AMBULANCE DAY.

SATURDAY'S COLLISION. Members of St; John Ambulance took up their annual collection in . Timaru on Saturday, and as usual a Jibei-al response was made, everybody recognising the very valuable work which the Association does gratuitously. The lady collectors were stationed at the most frequented corners, morning, afternoon, and evening, and their courteous, appeals for subscripitions met with few denials. The collectors had unfortunately to do their work under yory disagreeable weather conditions, a cold wind, and intermittent rain showers prevailing throughout the afternoon and it reflects credit on. them that they kept to their task. The satisfactory total df £2OO 18s was collected for the day. The amounts taken at the : various oorners, and the collectors in charge were as follows: • ~-.; Morning.—Hydro, Mrs Lewis, £24 3s sid; Empire Corner, Miss Hartstronge, £2l 13s Id; Arcade, Mrs Cox, £l9 13s 10£ d. Gabites' Corner, Miss Fussell,£26 17s lid; Woollcomb© Street, Mrs Moore, £5 15s 6d; Railway . Station, Mrs Claugh'ton, £l3 15s 8£; Grosvenor Corner, Mrs Hughson £lB 3s 4jd. Afternoon. —Hydro, Mrs TJnwin, £ll 5s 2£d; Empire Comer, Mrs'Kerr, £9 lis 5Jd; Arcade, Mrs Thomas, £l3 Is lid; Gabites' Corner, Mrs Moore, £4| 15s Id; 'Woollcombo Street, Mrs Gabites, £9 5s 9d; Railway Station, Miss Irwrin, £2- 17s lid; Grosvenor: Corner, Mrs Minifie, £9 6s.s£d. The lady helpers ceased work between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the men of the Brigade took up the collection. In th : is time they took £1 3s 7d.

Resuming work in the evening three corners were-canvassed. These were the Hydro, Miss Priest, £3 2s sd; Empire Corner, Miss Bowden, £3 18s 7sd; and Gabites' Corner, Mrs Olaugjhton, £1 19s l£d. During the day, the following special donations were received:—Miss"'. McLean, £5, Dr. Burns £1 Is; New ■Zealand Refrigerating Company £2 2s, and the Canf&erbury Frozen.
