DOMINION WAR NEWS.

ANGRY SCENES.

AT LECTURE ON THE WAR* '

(Per Press Association.)

HAMILTON, Feb. 28. Angry scenes were witnessed last night at a lecture on "Who caused the War," by Rev. Howard Elliott. The lecturer sought to show that Catholics throughout the world were in league against Britain, and he was subjected to a tiradei of bitter interjections throughout. His declaration that the Pope was responsible for the present European conflict, in his anxiety to secure world domination, caused a tremendous outburst of invective, and. the lecturer, who had difficulty In proceeding,-•*order-jscl ..the police to remove several interrupters.- At the conclusion, the crowd waited for-th© lecturer and followed hitit, and, lie had to be escorted by the police, and eventiftilly escaped W motor. $ . A SECOND WAR LOAN. STATEMENT BY HON. A. M. MEYERS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. , Questioned to-day as to the possibility of a second war loan being floated in New Zealand, the Hon. A. M. Meyers remarked that authority would be certainly asked for that purpose on till© meeting of parliament. "It is of Course' the obvious responsibility of tlie Government" said Mr Meyers, . "to raise a Sufficient fund for the financing of our share of what the war costs, which, as is well known, is now approximately one million pounds pel" ■ month. The country, despite the withdrawal for military purposes of so many of our best men, is in an unexampled state of prosperity, and I venture to say that the people of the Dominion n.re only awaiting an opportunity of further proving their readiness to .meet all demainds- niside upon them, in. support of the Empire's war against militarism, and fivghtfniuess. Such "an opportunity will be afforded when the time comes for the Government to ask for subscriptions- to a second New Zeafand Wftr Loan.
