SOUIH CANTEAIBUItY MEETING. - OPENS TO-MORROW.' The spring meeting of the £outh Canterbury Jockey win commence at- the Hasnayke racecourse ! to-morrow, tlie first event being timed to start at 1 o'clock. Special tvain arrangements have been made'" tor visitors, and trains wul ruii ■ from Timaru to the course at 12.10 and 12.30 p.m. I'he racecourse is probably looking better now' than it has done at any t:mo previously, and offers a pleasant prospect to racegoers. The track itself is in splendid condition, and .only fine weather is required to ensure an interesting day's sport. As was the case last year, all profits from the season's racing will be devoted to patriotic purposes, and soldiers in uniform will be admitted free. Eeturned soldiers will be admitted in ordinary dress on passes which may bel obtained at the secretary's office. The races mostly bear an open appearance,, and the financial results of the meeting should be quite satisfactory. As a result of the Varnish episode at the Grand National meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs has directed that no race muat he started until all investments have been registered on the machine, and speculators should note that this gives them less time than formerly between the events in which to make their choice and purchase tickets.
