In opening tne proceedings Mr i\iitheriord spoke of the many good personal qualities of Mr Paterson, and of the Highly satisfactory way in which he had performed his official duties. Mr Kutherford then called ""on Miss Gladys Campbell to hand Mrs Paterson a very handsome bouquet., anu upon Mr Jjale to present a, beautiful tea and coffee service to Mrs Paterson and a purse of sovereigns to Mr Paterson, wishing both long life and happiness in their new sphere. Messrs Dale, Raymond, MeCort, Campbell and Mr Smith, stationmaster at PaiWio. then spoke in complimentary term.-) ol Air Paterson. Mr Paterson had a great ovation on rising to respond. Pie said lie did not know what they had done to deserve such high compliments and handsome presents. They were far beyond comparison with the few trivial things they had done. In the course, of his duties he had tried to treat everyone, rich and poor alike, fairly. They were sorry to leave .Aibury, but promotion was not always being offered. For Mrs Paterson and himself he thanked them for their kind wishes and handsome presents. Cheers were given for the guests and I their family, and after.
