THE Git AND. FRENCH ADVANCE ON THE SOMME. To-night, and Wednesday only, - the Grand screen the most ieaiisto official film yeit retoa.-ed. The fimi shows the largest gun ever shown here and a-so shows it in action, from the load.ng of the huge sihell to the firing, ax d .°the destruction of German defences as it lands. It also shows tlio' effects en the Germans, who are aemoralized and ru.sii out of the trenches w t'h theii" hands up, crying "Ivanimeratl." Seeing- this film one can realize what is being done on the battlefields of Europe. There will also be screened a Top. cal Budget in conjunct'on with it. Tlie Star c'-ama :s entitled "The Scarlet Sin." It tells the story of a nobe clergyman and his erring wife. While tlio clergy-nan is fighting the sinners for ther souls' welfare a trusted friend steals liis wife, who goes away to Paris with her lover, leaving her littflo son. The clergyman saves many lives in a. terrific explosion at theniine, and eventually after hearing of liis w'fe's suppos-ad suicide he takes another wife. After the lapse of a year or two the erring wife returns for a look at the ivy covered vicarage, and perhaps for a glimpse of her son. She is hori'fied to seo flames creeping out of the window of her liile son's room. Entering tire house she manages to reach the room in time to rescue lier boy. She atones \r tli her life and thus her sins are washed avay. The clergyman does not let iris step-wife see the faco of the dying woman, thinking it better to keep the secret. The drama is quite as pathet'c as the well known "East Lynne." There a.re fine supports and the Grand Txio fake a specialty of the accompani nents. Prices as usual. "THE FINAL PAYMENT." This evening Fullers will present to I Theatro Royal patrons a most varied selection of films. The principal feature is a powerful dranaaj, "The Final I Payment." A husband gives his wife 500 dollars to mind for him until he can arrange to pay it in. The money represents, ho tells her, the final payment on their bungalow. The wife goes to an afternoon tea • gathering, loses at cards, and is forced to use her husband's money. In desperate straits that night she feigns sickness. She liad left her wrap at the play, and going for it she comes upon a purse containing the money she had lost. She takes the bag and flees from the house. A crook follows her homo and steals the bag, but is forced to drop it in the park. In the morning the young wife is distracted, goes out into the park to think, and she sees a little girl pick up the bag. Giving the child a little reward she obtains possession of it, but later returns it by a roundabout method to the owner, who l-emembers the agitation of the young woman who lost it, and returns it to her. The wife is made happy, and does not toll her husband of the money's adventures. Another tip-top feature is a Triangle Keystone comedy, "His Bread and Butter," which is full of ludicrous situations. The leading character is a waiter in a cafe, and where his wife is also engaged without his knowledge. "When he discovers this the I'un commences, for liis two superiors spend the greater part of their time in making love to her. The antics of the husband who is evidently something of a juggler and acrobat combined, cannot fail to provoke laughter. A most interesting war topical, "With tlie French Troops" a stirring drama, "The Ooutlaw" ; the latest Topical Budget, and some splendid views of Capetown are all included in the film programme, which will he enhanced by de ightful music by the 'Royal Orchestral Quartette. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings special vaudeville attractions will be introduced. / "THE NE'ER DO WELL." In presenting to patrons of the Theatre Royal on Thursday and Friday only the Sel'g production, "The Ne'er IDt Well," the management expresses ' the belief that it is tho finest picture of its kind ever shown in New Zealand. . Of all Rex Beach's books this is probI ably the best known and most popuTar, and the story is one that lends itself ! admirably to adaptation for the screen. ( Nor have the artists ever done better I work. That the necessary atmosphere of realism should be imparted the Sell's Company journeyed to Panama., where the greater part of tlie action of the story takes place,, and filmed the scenes under ideal conditions. Thus, apart from its dramatic interest, the picture possesses added interest by reason of the many excellent views of the construction work in progress on the Canal. The product'ou is in every way , an admirable one, and should maintain, if not enhance, the reputation of the. I book. A. special mntineio will be held on Friday afternoon. The evening sessions will commence at, 7.50 p.m., | and reserve p'.ans will open at tho Bristol oil Wednesday morning.
