, AN AUSTRIAN REPORT.. . ROUMANIAN REVERSE IN '■ : TRANSYLVANIA. • • , Received 5.5 p.m., Oct. Ist, VIENNA, Sept. 30. Communique: Tho Roumanians wero beaten near Hermannstadt (southern Transylvania). The battle continues. T.\'o occupied tho heights south and soutn-cast of tho town. GERMAN COMMUNIQUE. German communique. Roumanians attacked in Goerzeny mountains, and from Fogaras. The enemy was, -repulsed at Goerzeny, but further south the defensive troops evaded attack. . . .

Tho Germans drove back Roumanians south of H#nndorf.

Tho battle of Hermannstadt ended in our favour. The first Roumanian army sustained heavy loss and ,fled in disorder into impassabio country cut Rothernthurm pass, where Ave by a bold march caught them in tho rear and poured a devastating fire among them. HUN PRACTICES IN BULGARIA. BUCHAREST, Sept. 30. Tho "Epoca" states that tho Germans havo established a reign of terror in Bulgaria. Citizens aro eourtmartialled on tho flimsiest pretests, and there have been numerous executions.

Communique—Our troops, at Hermannstadt were attacked on all sides by superior forces. They re-establish-ed their communication southwards after three days' fighting, repulsing tho enemy, who was attacking from the south The Roumanians retired southwards. The fighting is general! on the north and north-western fronts. A weak enemy attempt to land at Corabia was immediately repulsed. ENEMY GENERALs C-'UNFERRING. General Falkenhayn commands the Austro-Germans in the Hermannstadt district; General Hindenburg is now in tho Dobrudja, conferring with General Mackensen. ENEMY'S AIR WAR. Zeppelin and aeroplane attacks on Bucharest continue daily. A. number of boy scouts liave been killed,, and a Hungarian church was partly destroyed. ' ; NEWS FROM THE DOBRUDJA. The Russo-Roumanian' pressure in the Dobrudja is unrelaxed, and tho enemy's losses are serious. .The whole of one Roumanian battery of artillery is mentioned in Orders of tho Day.
