MONTHLY MEETING.. The monthly meeting of the Women's .Christian Temperance Union was held on Tuesday afternoon. Reports of work at the Sailors' Rest were read, showing 57 men and 86 vis is for August and 51 men and 57 yisjts for' September. Three social evenings were given to the men, which were much enjoyed. Misses Paice and Freeman, Mrs Grant and Mss May Brown and other ladies contributed largely to the entertainment on these evenings. Literature was received from Mrs Logan, Mrs Sinclair, Mr Freentv, MiGreen, pubic librarian, weekly papers from Hutton's, Testaments from Mrs Brown and the Minister's' Assoc"ation. Testaments and Travellers Guide from Mr Binskin, and refreshments werp ■given by Mr Hutchison, Mrs Herrori and Mr Dawson." The sailors show thtfr appreciation of whait is done for their welfare by their visi'ts and letters seiit to MrGood after they halve left part. Motions of sympathy were passed to Mrs Brooker and Mrs Norrie, members who have lo»b sons, also the -iaembeirs of Mrs Banris's family. MrsTrott read a most interesting report of her vis't to the District Convention held at New Brighton early in September. The president drew attention to tiro action of the Borough Council in granting the i-equest of a feiw petitioners for extended time forbatlr'ng on Sundays at Caroline Bay, without giving others an opportunity of expressing xa opinion on the matter. A resolution was passed expressing regret at this action of the Boirough Council.
