NEW YEAR CARNIVAL.
!,■• 'ST. ANDREWS TO ASSIST. '' The Directors of the St. Andrews' Caledonian Society niet last night and were waited upon by a deputation from Timaru—Messrs H. H. Frascr, H. Goodwin and A. G. Martin, to confer ' ivith. them regarding the New . Year Carnival. It had been suggested, and this placed before the Directors, that St. Andrews and Pleasant Point should combine in nominating and running a Queen candidate. The Directors, however, considered that their interests were more closely connected with Waimate, imd they decided to co-oper-ate with ■ Waimate if Waimate comes into the scheme. A_ deputation, Messrs O'Loughlin, McKeown, Eraser, and O'Leary, was appointed to wait on the Waimate Society and make arrangements with them. It was a.'.so decided to call a public meeting in St. Andrews to make arrangements about a local Queen. The meeting was quite enthusiastic over the proposal. The St. Andrews Red Cross Societ,y havo arranged a visit from the Savages, and their executive met last night and decided that the money raised by the Savage concert shall bo credited to the local Queen candidate, in co-opea-ation with Waimate.
