AND D.O. MEDALS. " . FOR NEW ZEALANDERS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.)' LONDON, Sept. 22. Military Crosses have been awarded to the following New Zealanders: —• ■ Captain John Cowles (Riflo Brigade) —Gallantly leading a raid, in which thirty-three of the enemy were .killed and only seven New Zealanders were wounded. Captain Alfred Powley (Rifle Brigade)—ln a .trench raid, though • his party was heavily encumbered by eighty wounded and one dead and had nine prisoners to look after, Captain Powley got them all in safely. •Lieutenant Phillip Ellis (Field Artillery)— Assisting in removing a large amount of ammunition and high explosives, when the gun epaulements became ignited. He also removed the gun and prevented the spread of the firo.. He was under shell fire all the time and his own ammunition was exploded. Lieutenant Edward Kibble white (Wellington Regiments) —Me took command when his senior officer was injured, rallied liis men and drove out' the enemy from advanced positions. The following receive Distinguished Conduct Medals:— Private Frost (Wellington Regiment)— Assisting an officer to cover the withdrawal of raiders. Tie twice passed the enemy's wiro and rescued two wounded men. Privates Lepper, McConnick" and Nimmo- (Rifle Brigade^—Bringing in wounded under heavy firo. Private Potter (Weiiingcon Regiment) —Gallantry in leading the way in a raid on an enemy trench.
