TO-MOIUIOW'S CONCERT.

The heavy booking of seats for the : concert to be given by the Timaru Choral and Orciitstral Society in tlio Theatre Itoyal to-morrow n.gnt-, shows how much the work of the Society is appreciated. Great interest is taken, in the appearance for the first time in Timaru of Mrs R. P. Hall (nee Agnes Pad don), who has won such golden expressions of a.pprovnl from the Press in England and Ireland. The "Norwich Press" says "Madame Agnes Paddon won golden opinions. Her voice is rich and mellow and of rare timbre for a contralto and her welcomo by a Norwich audience was hearty in the extreme." The Belfast "Press" says, "Madame Agnes Paddon, a sweet contralto, pleased immensely and was loudly applauded and recalled. She displayed excellent taste ill the selection of her songs. Her wonderful contralto voice will not be readily forgotten by those who heard it." Mrs R. , P. Hall will sing tlio contralto role in tho Erl King's Daughter," and "Corisande," by Wilfrid Sanderson. Madnmo Gower Bums's manyadmirers will .be delighted with this * opportunity of hearing her again. She ! will sing the soprano solo in the "Erl : King's Daughter," and tho song, "Whither Away My Heart" from (The Sleeping Beauty). The "lertteiton. Times" says, "Mrs B urns's best number was 'Whither Away My Heart.' .It was sung expressively and with ! exceeding grace and delicacy, making 1 the solo ono of the gems of the evening." Madame Gower Burns will also sing "I gave you a Gift," by Mrs Mai Burnes Loughnan, of Christcliureh. , This song is now published, and was ! sung by Paul Dufault at several of his concerts, who thus paid the highest enmp iment to the composer. The Christchurch "Press," in reference to : Mrs Mai Burnes Loughnan's composi- | tions, says: "Mrs Mai Loughnan is a I local composer whose work is fast coming into favour, and who has undoubted creative capacity, in tlio vocal I field." I Mr G. H. Andrews will bo the baritone soloist and has an exceptionally fine rota, in "Ihe Erl King's Daughteiv Tvli'ch lie sings admirably. The choir and orchestra have been uraetismg assiduously for some months. The choruses are excollent and the orchestral accompaniment adds great.' y to the effect. Mr H.
