SEVEN- A-SIDE TO OllX AMENT. TJaei annua] &erou-a-sid«> football tournament under the auspices of the South Canterbury Rugby Union was held on Saturday, in the Caledonian Grounds. The weather was ideal, though in the morning a slight frost, still remained on tho ground, this lnakiup tlio ball rather difficult to handle. Tho ground was in good order and the play wis fast and interesting. There was an entire absence of tho fruitless principle of playing the man instead of tho ball, and thus tho games were of very high order. All the games were keenly contested. Great interest was centred in the school-games, some of the) young players showing great promise. The following are tho results of tho games:— SCHOOL A Wnimrva'itai beat Marist 6 to nil. Waimate boat Gcraldmo 5 to nil. Waimataitai beat Waimate. Main boat Temuka 12 to nil. Final: Main v Waimataitai. Play was fast and interesting. Waimataitai had Main defending in tho first half, and from a scramble on the line they scored. Main pressed hard, but good lino kicking stalled them oif, and tho game ended in favour cf Waimataitai by 3 to nil. SCHOOL B. Main I beat Waimataitai 6 to nil. Main II beat Temuka 8 to nil. Morvon beat Fail-lie 3 to nil. Marist beat Waimate 6 to nil. Main I beat Main II 6 to nil. Marist beait Morvon. 5 to nil. Final: Main Iv. Marist proved a good game. Main being a heavier team easily held their lighter opponents. By good passing they scored and then twice from tussles on the line. Lynch for Marist played a. splendid game. SECONDARY GRADE. Waimate beat Temuka 6 to nil. Pleasant Point beat Geraldine 5 to nil Final: Waimate v. Pleasant Point-. From the kick off Waima+e by fast following up had Pleasant Point on tho defens : ve and from a line out they crossed their opponents' lino. Plonsant Point by a good passing rush shifted play into Waimate/s territory and from a serum near tho line they got over and equalised matters. Play in the second half was very fast. Waimate by lone kicking worked their way towards their opponents' i; iw, aid from a STum in the centre of the field, the half-biek secured and scored well out just as time sounded.

JUNIOR. Star forfeited to High School. High School A eas.iy defeated Zingari B by 10 points to nil. In a hard fought game Zingari A scored a win over High School D by 3 points to nil. After a fast and interesting game, Temuka boat Celt.c by 3 points to nil, though the losers had tho better of the game. High School B defeated High School C by 8 points to nil. Zingari A defeated High School A by 3 points to nil. This was a fast game, Zingari being superior in the forward d'vision. Temuka after a keenly contested game, defeated High School by 3 points to nil. In the final Zingari A v. Temuka, the former had it all their own way, Temuka being kept busy defending. Zingarf's backs indulged in sotno goo A passing a-nd registered 6 points to Tern uka's nil.

SENIOR. In this grade the standard of the pla v v,-as very good. J High Scnool A ( ivitli six men ran up 6 points agaaist Z.iigari. The High school backs handled the ball very we?l. Zingari A sjisdy defeated Zingari C c.:l i P oin^s to ni 1. Penrose 12) and Shalicrass (1). Zingari A indulged m some good parsing rushes. Celtic B v. High School was a very faat game; Celtic made many attempts to cross tlieu- opponent's line but goad tackling by Fahev and Little stalled them off From a line out near Celtic's line, I'ahoy securod and cutting i n scored ui a good .position. Just before time McDonald got over again the game ending 6 to nil in favour of HHi School.

High School C v. Celtic A. This was another evenly matted game. In the third spell Cetic forced matters and kicked the ball over then- opponent's Ine, but a. long kick rel : eved School. Kerr secured the leather in front of the goal 3.11(1 manacled to izet -over. Geraldine defeated P'easant Point, by 6to nil. Shalicrass inverted. In the second half by open, play worked down into Zingair.'s twenty-five. Penrose and bhaLorass defended well for Zingari. Neai time, JEligJi School had a Iruitlesa snot at goal. Tima was called with Zmgari leading by o po.uts to nil. High School B, after a fairly level game, defeated Celtic by 6 po-uts to nil. Play wk contined to the. forward divis.on. Lne, Fahe'y scored but failed to convert. Celtic pressed hard and kept High School busily dofending. Just as t.me was called. Fahey kicked well down the field and .McDonald, by fast loilowing up, scored in tho corner. Z'.ngari A obtained an easy victory over Zingari B by S to nil. The winners' back division were too fast for their opponents. High School 13 defeated Tenuika \ by 6 points to nil. High School had the l>est ot the game, L.ttle and McDonald scoring.

Final: High School Bv. Zingari A. Tins was tho best game of the day, the play being Inst and interesting. Alter ten minutes had elapsed no score had been registered. Play continued, lis'" School forwards grafted solidlv, while Fahey in the hack division proved himself a. star. His line kicking and tackling left little to be desired. Taylor in tho Zingari forwards plaved ;i great game, while Penrose played the best game of the day. The, match was very even, the ball travelling from one end of the ground to the other. Scramble after scramble on each line resu'ted in no advantage to either side la the sev-nth spell High S'liool forced Zingari towards half way. From a line out Penrose obtained 'tho ball and put in a great run. He eluded the opposing backs and finished up bv gt-mind-ing the ball under the posts.
