HENRI FRENCH CO.
Henri French, who appeared at the Theatre Royal last night, was all that his advance notices claimed for him. He is an entertainer of 110 mean order and for two hours he kept tire attention of the audience very closely rivetted upon him. His is an entertainment of many parts and it would he difficult, to say which was the most interesting part where all was so clean and cleverly performed. As an exponent of the art of producing results contrary to nature lie is decidedly good, and 110 has this added attraction over ether artists of his kind who have visited Timaru: 110 lets his audience into the secret of how some of Jiis deception is practised. These "give a ways, ' added to the pleasant 'chatter" which the artists keeps up all the time he is at work, cause much amusement. While. French was good as an illusionist, he excelled as a sharpshooter, a mandolinist, and particularly in his turns when riding a single high wheel, as well as when moving around at lightening speed with liis feet attached to two small wheels which were unattached in any way. "When he eoukl cut such figures as he did in this way it is difficult- to imagine anything he could not do in the, way of trick cycle riding. The performance was a. genuinely smart and skilfid one all through and Mr French's announcement that he would appear again on the stage in Timaru at Easter time, was not unnaturally received with enthusiasm.
