APPARENTLY IN SERIOUS CONDITION. CROWN PRINCE SUMMONED. PARTS; Dec. 11. The 'Echo de Paris" states that the Crown Prince was hurriedly summoned to the Kaiser's bedside on Tuesday. CONDITION IMPROVED. THE HAGUE, Dec. 11. Reports show that the Kaiser this morning was markedly improved, and that his physicians allowed him to sit up for a few hours. HIS TEMPERATURE HIGH! Received 10.10 a.m., Dec. 13th. COPENHAGEN, Dec. 12. The Kaiser's temperature is 101. His nervous breakdown continues serious. The doctors persuaded him to take opiates. LONDON, Deo. 11. ■ j The victories in Poland are regarded in Berlin as assuring tho safety of the eastern frontier until spring, when the Russians will probably try a raid. The Germans believe that they will be able by Christmas to transfer ten army corps from the east to the west, when a new attempt will be made to reach the Channel or Paris. Krupps in the meantime are finishing the new artillery required. GERMANS DESERTING. Dutch reports state that many Germans, including naval men, are deserting, and crossing the Dutch border. The sentries when suspicious order them to return to the front.
PRISONERS OF WAR. The Berlin authorities forced two escaped officers to return to the internment camp at Bergen under a threat of drastic punishment for breaking their parole. GERMANY UNFAIR. Berne reports that the ohstinate German refusal to release British surgeons and ambulance men in accordance with the Geneva Convention is causing indignation as over a thousand Rod Cross men have been returned by France to Germany. One soldier out of four men is the respSonse of the miners of Northumberland and Durham. A miner makes an excellent -fighting man, and recruiting continues on the coalfieds, and the men are responding steadily. RECRUITS FROM AFAR. One hundred and fifty English recruits have arrived from Argentina. They paid their own fares, and carried out military training on the voyage. HON- T. MACKENZIE. LOOKS AFTER OUR MEN. LONDON, Dec 12. The Hon. T. Mackenzie goes to Egypt to-day to complete arrangements for the comfort of the New Zealanders. nnd organise records for the Department. . THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE. GERMANY SAID TO HAVE AGREED. Received 3.5 p.m., Dec. 13th. LONDON, Dec. 12. A Berlin wireless states that Germany immediately assented to the Pope's suggestion for a Christmas truce. The decision of other belligerents is unknown. i / ROME, Dec. 12. The Vatican announces that its efforts to obtain ,a Christmas truce have failed owing to-the opposition of a certain Power. LONDON, Dec. 12. . Russia has declined a Christmas' truce.
