HOME RELIEF FUND
FOR THE POOR OF GREAT BRITAIN, IRELAND, AND BELGIUM,
The objeofc of the Poor of Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Fund, is to proTide reliefi for those who are in need of food asi a result of the war, by' sending voluntary contributions of money, meat, produce and clothing from New Zealand, to be apportioned in such manner as may be considered necessary, in association with the committee of the Prince of Wales's Fund. Branches of the Fund are being organised in various parte of the Dominion by the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Sports Protection League. General Secretary—Mr R. W. Shallcrass, Wellington. In appealing for assistance on behalf of this fund, the Committee are confident that the response of the generous-hearted people of South Canterbury will be unstinted, and, worthy of a prosperous community bound by ties of deep and enduring affection to the Motherland. The needs of the starving people in Great Britain and Belgium will be severe indeed during the coming winter, and at no time in the history of our Empire has there been a worthier claim for assistance in the relief of distress. Any help given which entails selfdenial will be given in a noble cause, and will be well repaid by the knowledge that in 6ome small degree a duty we owe to the Mo. fherland has been fulfilled.
It is certain that this entreaty in the causa of humanity will bo equal to a command on the bounty of our people, who will gladly accept' the secred duty of helping to alleviate distress and starvation amongst our kinsfolk and our brave allies in Belgium.
i It is intended to forward from New Zealand shipments of food, clotlrng, blankets etc., for distribution through the agency of The Prince of Wales's Fund, with the ;o-operation of the Hi<ih Commissioner in London. Where contributions' of money cannot be given conveniently, all classes of food stuff, produce etc., will bo welcome in aid of the fund.
HOW TO HELP. Remittances can be made through any member of the Committee, or for. warded direct to the honorary treasurer, Mr J. Haling, c.o Guinness and LeCren, Ltd., Strathallan Street, Timaru. LIVE STOCK.—Sheep, cattle, pigs etc. The contributors of live stock will oblige by giying prompt advice to the,nearest local committee concerning number and description of stock to be g' v en. Arrangements will then be made as to when and where the stock is to be deliweredi. | PRODUCE.—Wheat, oats, potatoes, etc., will be suitable in helping the fund, and full arrangements have been made for storage' of any giftß pending Bbipinent or disposal. BUTTER, EGGS. POULTRY may be forwarded through local committees or direct to Timaru. WARM CLOTHING.— Suitable warm' clothing should be sent through the. local committees. or, direct to Timaru. j It is essential that presents of clothing | should be despatched in a clean condition, and various ladies committees have undertaken to repair and make up clothing to be forwarded Horned 1
