TDIABC—WEDNESDAY, NOV. 10. (Before. Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) MARRIED COUPLETS CLAIM. Henry Pitliie and Mrs Pithie (Mr O'Br.eu), sued Dr Bowe for £il iys 6d, wages in lieu of a month's notice. Henry Pithie said ho and his wife were engaged as married couple on Dr Bowe s run at £l2O per annum. After working about a week defendant said witness's wife did not suit him and Ihe asked them to go. Witness said he could not stay if h.s wife had to go, and accordingly they both left. l)r Bowe refused to give him a month's notice or wages and said witness could claim for it but he would g've him a:'! the trouble he could. He heard 110 complaint from the men on the station about wife's cooking. To Mr Campbell: Dr Bowe did not offer any wag®, when he left. The ■ ; first morning, but that was'dhe to the fact that his wife was not used to the place. It was her first position of the kind. Mrs Pithie said she d'd not seem to suit Dr Bowe's fancy in cooking. She did not hear any complaints from the men on the station. The defence was that plaintiff was discharged on account of incompetency and late meals. Dr Bow© said he engaged plaintiffs as married couple, the wife to do household work, milk when required, and cook for the stat : on hands. Re had no fault to find with Mr P'thic's work as ploughman, but (he could rot agree w ; t)h Mrs Pithie's cooking, which gave him indigestion. The mea's wore often late, and that disorganised the wcrk of th« stat : on. . William Diy. a shepherd on the station. gave cv ; (lra"6"ffl to the inferior cooking and lateness of meals. Tlip. Magistrate gave judgment for defendant.
