POLITICAL AND SOCIAL. (Contributed.) There i~ a movement in the district to try and get Mr F. H. Smith, M.P. tor Waitaki, to contest the Temnka seat in the Government interest. As he is so well and favourably known, and a resident in the electorate, it is considered that he would have an excellent chance of success. Mr and Mrs A. "\V. Macdonald entertained a large party of friends on Tuesday evening, they having made extensive additions to their homestead. Messrs Townley Pros.. of Tiniarn, who have erected several buildings in the district, were the builders, and the work was very favourably commented on. After sinking the national Anihem, Mr \V. Mc\ ey as M 0. set the dance which was held in the new granary, and was kept tip till 3 a.m. Splendid music was supplied by Messrs R. E. Vincent and A. Cain. Son us and recitations wore also contributed. and a youth of 7S years danced ih<* Highland iling very creditably. Xnn-dancers were catered for in the dining room with cards and games. A plentiful supply of refreshments wa« served at intervals during the evening. Cheers for the host and hestess closed a banpv reunion. Lambing is fairly central. "While this district is not sufferintr so much as those on the lighter land, a day's tain would be welcome. Collectors for the Uelief Fund are mi'.-t'ii" v.
