Mr Wicklmra, the British Trade Commissionerj lias received the following from tl;o Board of Trade'Tho prohibition on.the exportation of foodstuffs from the United Kingdom has been withdrawn as from August 2S as regards the British Dominions, hut from September 11th the exportation of sugar, refined and unrefined, also molasses and similar goods, will be prohibited. INCREASE IN WAR RATES. CHRISTCHURCH, 'Sept, 18. The British Insurance Association has cabled to firms in Christchurch that the war nates in Britain have been increased from 3 per cent, (formerly) to 5 per cent.; and rates to India and Africa from 2 per cent, to 4 per cent. It is thought that the advance is due to the activities of German cruisers which might have escaped from the North Sea. OLYMPIA PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL. TUG-OF-WAR COMMITTEE.
