WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL

MEETING LAST NIGHT. A meeting of the AYaimatc Borough Council was held last night: Present—Tho Mayor (Mr J. Black), Councillors hikster, Sanders, Evans, Manchester, Paul, and Hutt. The Mayor's statement showed receipts for August £34 2s 9d, payments £223 lis 3d. The accounts to be passed totalled £129 14s 9d. This would leave a bank overdraft of £375 8s lOd. Mr H. H. Hayhurst, Mayor of Temuka, acknowledged the Council's resolution of sympathy. The sports clubs were granted the use of Victoria Park on Thursday week. The Technical Association was granted a subsidy of £5. The South Canterbury Public Safety Committee wrote that it -would be able to lend the AA'aimate Borough Council from £IOO to .£2OOO at 3J per cent, at call. It was decided that the offer be declined with thanks, it being considered unwise to take money at call. The Council supported the motipn of the AA'aimate County Council recommending the South Canterbury Hospital Board to relieve distress occasioned by the war by means of a special rate. A question was raised by the Mayor as to the possibility of starting the street improvement work at once, and it was decided that steps be taken at once with the preliminaries. Accounts amounting to £33 Its 3d were passed for payment.
