♦ COMMITTEE MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the "Waimatait;ii School Committee was hoid last night. Present—Mr H. A. Inncs-Joncs (chapman). Mrs Cray, Mrs Buchanan, Messrs G. E. Knowles, Cutbbert East. W. S. Tank and A. J. Briclgewater. The headmaster reported that the averago attendance for the past month had been.—Boys '270; girls 237; total 507. The roll number was 578. The attendance had suffered considerably tliroiich the prevalence of eh eken'-pnx. The Board's inspectors conducted the annual examination on August 31. September 1 and 2. On Thursday last the infant department was thrown open to the parents when a large number availed themselves of the opportun'ty to see the little ours at work. 'The headmaster said j:o thoutrht tnat certificates should be given— not as a reward, but so that tne children who got into the honours list would have something to show for it. It was decided that only the duxmedals and certificates be given, the headmaster and Mr East to draw up a suitable certificate form. • A schedule of duties for tho janitrix. as drawn up by the headmaster, was approved. In reply to Mr King, the headmaster said the school had any amount of exits to ensure safety in case of tire, but. it was a good thing to have fire drill occasionally, to teach the children discipline in case of tiro, and he would give this dr li now and again. Mr Tank, as visitor for tho month, reported on a visit of inspection, when ho found tilings going on very satisfactorily. He named a few minor requirements, and it was decided to procure these. Messrs East and Kuowles were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. The ehainnan mentioned that coal had cost. ;CIS '2s for the past winrei. Accounts amounting to €l2 10s .'W were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
