| WAITFNA SCHOOL. . A euchre parly and dance was held at YWutuna on Friday evening in aid of the- school prize i'n'nd. It was well attended. The winners of the euchre prizes were AJiss He mm and Mr \\\ Baker, and the consohuions fell to Miiss Nellie Huntejiand Mi-.Jack Camp, bell. For the dance, which lasted till--2 a.m., .Mr W. Xoster supplied fhe music, and Mr M. Sullivan "was 31.C. The supper was provided by the ladies' and they excelled themselves, notwithstanding Waituna's reputation in this regard. Air J. Menzies cordially thanked the public for their support of the school. WAIHAORUNGA SCHOOL ANNUAL
The annua', entertainment in aid of the. school fund., took place at Waihao- [ runga -on .Friday evening, when then: was a large attendance, a large member being unable to gain admission. Mr H. Max Whatman, chairman of the school committee, presided. The room aims fast chilly decorated for the occasion by Mr j. Knight, and his efforts were much appreciated. The first part of the programme was contributed by the children and their items showed much careful training by the teacher, Airs Knight, and all acquitted them-' solves in a highly satisfactory manner. The second part of the programme was composed by adult items and the. i-cca.l •performers" were greatly assisted by visitors from Waimcte." Manv or the performers had to respond to "encores. At the end of the programme a vote of thanks to all helpers was moved by Mr J. C. Hurst, and a. special rote of thanks to the chairman was conveyed with musical honours. Reiycs'hmenls provided by the ladies of the district, were banded round, after which the room was cleared for dancing. The music, supplied by Miss Nell (piano), and Mr Foley "(violin), was a tieat in itself, and "Mr C. Snntman as M.C., deserved and received a vote ! of thanks.
BALL AT CLAREMONT. The bachelors of Claremont held their annual ball in the schoolroom on Friday evening last, and it was as usual a, pronounced success. The night being all that could bo desired, a large crowd responded to the'bachelors' invitation. fr:cncls coming from far and near. The bachelors had gone to no end of trouble to make the night an enjoyable one for all present, and while the younaer people wore dancing, the elder" people were enjoying themselves at a quiet game of cards, etc. About S o'clock the Grand March started, about 80 couples taking part in it, the treasurer, "Mr James Robinson, loading off with M ss Dynes. The music which was considered by ail present the host over had in the" district was supplied by Messrs Wontworth. (piano) and Blair (violin). The catering by Mr Hawkey, was all that could bo desired, and Mr H. MacMillan acted as Master of Ceremonies. Dancing was kept in.full ; swing until the very small hours of the morning, ■ when "Auld Lang Syne," brought to "a close, an evening's enjoyment for which the Claremont bachelors may well bo proud. No small amount of honour was due to the joint energies of the secretary, Mr M. Husband' and the tiensureiy Air James Robinson.
