GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tlio monthly meeting of this Hoard was hold yesterday. Present —Messrs Flatman (chairman!, Mnlvihill, Thomson and u uk.jison. The chairman thanked the Board on behalf of the Woodbury. Domain Board for liavjng 'done i-ho " gateway. The County Council had taken cvca: the maintenance of warning posts at the crossings. Messrs Sugrue had nearly completed their contract for shingling, and it was proposed to give them another contract for 1000 Yards of shiimle for Belfield roads. With Mr Mnlvihill .and Mr Dyer he had visited the Te Moana roads, which ho suggested they should discuss, when the overseers report was considered. Their next meeting would, ordinarily, fall on 11th August, Grand National week and he suggested that they Should meet on the 4th August. Their payments that day ■ were Either lidavy. They included over £IOO for Hospital and Charitable Aid and payments to contractors, while their -credit balance was £2&3 12s Gd. The tender of Mr Fyfe. at £8 | 10s each were accepted, foi- erecting \\'as.hhouses at the residences of two of the Board's workmwv. It was also agreed to put in concrete floors, but that the occupants must put in. boilers. The clerk to the Anuri County Council wrote giving some particulars re suspension bridge in Cheviot County effected by Mr Maefarlano, -which he understood to be a good class of bridge for light traffic. It was 16 miles from Cu'lverden. It was agreed that. the overseer should inspect, Mr W. P. Barker wrote asking the Board to verify by letter their decision to grant money from the Hobson bequest fund, stating the amount (£24o)', for the purpose of building a public hall in Gapes'VaTiny • also stating how much was at present obtainable, and agreeina to hand, over the money as obtainable _to ;.h : e three trustees, who would be Tiaible on starting the contract for the building.—The chairman •said the trustees for the hall wca-e Messrs Barker. Tke Crown Brewery Company wrote asking the Board to have morse cleared as required and chargo them.—Agreed to. ~\

Mr T. J. Pafcerson wrote consenting to proposed .alteration of course of creek at Webb's reserve for three chains from road line.—Agreed to. Mr Robert Dooke. of Hilton, wrote complaining of storm water from the road flowing over his paddock. He asked for pipes to put in.—Board to do one entrance; the rest must be done hy the owner.

Mr E.. A. Gray, of Orari Gorge, asked the Board to do something to Brown's road, there being one or two places where! it was impossible to get a leaded dray r.long.—Road to be made passable in the meantime.

The Valuer-General ■wrote with form of declaration to entitle the Board to receive subsidy on rates. Mr Unv.in, of Winchesi<r, called attention to need of something being done to foot-bridge over crecfc near his residence. —Overseer to inspoct and portMr C. M. Major Spencer waited on the- Board and said some men ti ho were workingfor the Board had camp.ld on the road and made it very difficult for people, to drive past, especially at night. In some places no doubt such camping could not ho helped but in the instance lie referred to there was a Board's paddock alongside the ramp. Mr E. Prkv.t confirmed what Major Spencer had said. —lt was stated that it was contractors who had camped on the road, and it j was agreed to inform them that they ' must camp in a Board's paddock whenever working in the vicinity of one. j Mr Priest and Mr Roy Priest wa'ted 0:1 the Board and asked for assistance , towards erecting a light traffic bridge i across the r'v-?r for access to the srrazI ing run held by Miss Priest. WATER RACES. The chairman said the To Moana — Kakahu water race was about to be constructed, and he asked members whether ; n their opinion, water races should be carried across roads in pines. It was the general opirron that they should he. It was resolved that in future pipes must be put in to the satisfaction of the overseer. .THE OYESSEEH. The chairman said that since last meeting ths Temuka Board had invited applications for. tho pos ! tion of overseer, arid one member of tho Temuka Board had approached their overseer and tried to induce h'm to aualy. On hearing ihV lie had assured Mr' Dyer thai lie would lose nothing if he did not apply. Had Mr Dyer" anrjljed on his own initiative he would have. <aid nothing, but he thought it was hit-tiny; below the belt to try to take their overseer from them.
