DIl MeXAB'S RESEARCHES. Tho rest-arches of Dr MeXab. into tho early history of New Zealand have been advanced further by Jiis visit to /Sydney, whence Jie returned on Wednesday alter 'an absence of a month, says the "Press." Dr McNab told a reporter that tho first volume of his work on the history of the North Island of New Zealand was just about to be. issued, and he is now busy with the second. Tiio first volume covers tho period from 1642 to ISIS, and tho second will run from 1819 to 3832; Lie has just visited Sydney in -order to obta-'n from the newspapers there a quantity, of material relating to New Zealand in the second period. He had lo cut tho visit short owing to. the approach of tho Parliamentary elections, in which he will l>e concerned as a candidate for Hawke's Bay. but lie was able to complete his search up to 1830. in addition to this work, he continued the investigation begun last year on tho ■early Supremo Court records in Sydney. These papers contain much that, rotates to case.s in the Court, dealing with New Zealand affairs at a time before there, was any white settlement here, to say nothing of a Court'. ' ""
