ANGLERS, NOT WRANGLERS.

It is to be regretted that there should be such long-continued friction on a sports body like the Council of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. Some little time back there were indications that the old breach had been healed, and that- the representatives of the different districts oil the Council would work in harmony: but judging from the tone of yesterday's meeting, the grievance, real or imaginary, is as much alive ns ever. As to whose fault it' is, it. would be difficult to say; probably there are faults on both sides. But one thing is certain, and that is that it is not creditable to the Council as a whole that these petty bickerings should go on as they do: neither i> it in the interests of the sport which the Council. is elected to govern. It is high time that less attention was paid to quarrelling, and more attention to the work that ought to be doneThe outcome of yesterday's meeting threatens to be a Supreme Court action to decide the validity of some elections. It will be at- least two months before this can be heard, and in the meantime the Council can do no business—cannot- even pay the salary of its ranger. Such a state of affairs is most regrettable, especially as the fishing season is fast approaching. ATr Aspinall made a very good suggestion after the meeting yesterday, to the effect that- all members of the Council should retire, and that a new election should be held. This would surely be more dignified than a quarrel in the law courts between members of a sporting body among whom nothing but harmony should prevail. It' would also be the most expeditious. inexpensive, and '' sporting " way of settling the difficulty, and it should give satisfaction to all who have the best interests of the Society at heart. We would strongly urge the members of the Council to adopt this course, get- the election over as quickly as possible, and set to work in peaceful earnest once again.
