RAUKAPUKA.
THE PROPOSED NEW COUNTY-. A PETITION BEING SIGNED. At the Gerakline sale yards yesterday, _Mr Fiatma-n, dhairman of the Gera.dine Rend Board, intimated that a petition in favour of the Kaukapuka. County Bii'l had been prepared, and he asked ratepayers of. the district" to sign it, as the new county would lead to economy and efr.ek-ncy. The petition, which was placed on a. table near the entrance to the sa'e yards, was a del reset! to the Sneaker and Members of the House -of- Representatives, and read as follows:
"lour petitioners are ratepayers of the present county of Geraktine, anil are desirous _ the Raukapuka County Bill should pass into la.w for the following reasons:—(a)-There are at present three local authorities exeras.'ng jurisdiction in the area proposed to be constituted, viz. the Gerakl ne Couii'-y Council, the Geraldine Road Board', and the.Mount Pee.i Road Board, (b) It will be a considerable, saving O J' expense as well as providing more efficient adm'jiis;ration. if the government of the above 'three local authoiit-i'os is replaced by the gcvernnient *-Bf one County Council, (e) The capital value of the proposed new county will be £1.467,349, and it will be found that on;- of 128 counties in New Zealand there arc 73 of ;i smaller ea.pit.ai value than the proposed new. county, (d) There will be a. community of interests between all pares of the proposed new county, and the administration of local government will. t>a more conveniently and economically carried out therein than is at present the case in the existing Geraldine County." ■ ,
