At the wool sales 8403 bales were offered including 7752 from New Zealand. There was a 1 arge attendance of buyers. Fine crossbreds are 5 to 7J- per cent, higher than April closing rates; medium, par. to o per cent, higher; poorer sorts, par-; slipes. medium low sorts, id per. lb lower. Americans were operating freely for fine and medium crossbreds. It is expected that merinos will show an advance of 5 per cent.

PRIVATE ADVICES.

The following private advices have heen received by 'l'imaru houses from thc'.r London offices:— Py Dalgetv and Co.:—""Wool sales opened. Attendance of buvers generally is large, arid competition animated, but poor selection. As compared with last sale's closing rates* greasy crossbred wools, line quality, are 5 to 7t jxhcent, higher; crossbred medium quality, par to 5 per cent, higher; coarse' crossbreds unchanged, except shabby crossbred wools, which , aro rather lowcrr. There is practically nothing offering in merinos." By N.M. and A. Co., Ltd.:—''Sales opened at an advance of 7J per cent, for fino x-breds. best medium slightly dearer, other sorts tmeliangeH. There is very little merinos offering. Large attendance of bnyefrs." By N.Z. L. and M. A. Co.: —"There, wns a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental and American buyers being active. The opdniug catalogues were not representative. Very little merino wool is offered. As compared with last sales closing rates prices are about 5 per cent, higher for fine cross--bred and merino, about par to u per cent, higher far medium crossbred. The market for 'coarse crossbred is firm."
