A. CASE IN COURTv

DUNEDIN, June 1. -Edward Frederick Lawrence at the master butcher, was charged. at the police 'court this morning with penalising D. Cameron, a person in his on .ploy, by dismissing him, for rendering personal service required' by him under the Defence Act. Cameron in his evidence said he was 3 a Lawrence's empioy for three weeks before going to camp, permission to do so being granted by Lawrence, mien witness returned, to work ho was told that ho was not wanted. Another man was in his place. • Defendant's counsel said the real reason for Cameron's dismissal was incompetence, and he was onlv employed temporarily while one of tlic' hands was awav.
Mr Bartholomew, S.M., said it was certainly a case for inquiry, but he thought the explanation given by the employer was adequate, and an answer to the charge. Defendant never showed any hostility to Cameron's attending lino camp. The case would be dis" mssed.
