As the outcome of "a discussion at the recent conference of the Federated Seamen's Union of Australasia, on whether, an application should be made to the Arbitration" Court for cancellation of the award and revert to the old method of strike as a means of adjusting grievances, the executive has circularised all branches emphasising the fact that the union had definitely decided to abide by the award, and members are duly warned of the intention of the executive to strictly enforce the rules, and in every case where breaches are proved there will be no hesitation in inflicting penalties. NOT ALLOWED IN NEW ZEALAND. The New South Wales police have formed an association to promote the interests of members. WAIMATE HOSPITAL. — ♦ MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Hospital Committee met'yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs A. Garland (chairman), At will. WaLker ; Lyall, Hart, Francis and Hutt. The char man's statement showed everything very satisfactory at the hospital. Provision had been made by the CentralC Board for n.orgue and new egress from the male ward to the verandahs, £3OO having been put down for this. The credit balance was £371 13s 3d, and accounts £l6O 9s 9d. The South Canterbury Hospital Board notified that Messrs Hall and Marchant, architects, would come down to Waimate and report on proposed morgue and alterations to female ward. Mr Atwill reported having secured from Messrs Cochrane a horse as a gift to the hospital for work about the place: also that Messrs T. Hawkins and Sons Hid "pul'led in : ' and cut chaff gratis.—These generous persons to bo cordially thanked. The return of patients showed 8 males and 9 females under treatment at date of last return; admitted during month, 9 males, 9 females, total treated, 17 malese. .18 females, total 35. Discharged during month, cured. 9 males, 9 females, total 18. The South Canterbury Hospital Board advised provision for £1494 for Waimate in four quarterly instalments.
