TO RECOGNISE UNIONS

The railway companies have appoint ed a oomnuttee to meet a committee from the National Union of Railwaymen's Executive to discuss employment conditions. Mr Thomas, a Labour member of the House of Commons, speaking at a meeting at Birmingham, said that this was the first definite recognition of the Union's power and responsibility. The oompanies invita/tion will be accepted. OUTRAGE BY STRIKERS. ST. PETERSBURG, March 29. Four hundred workmen were overcome by fumes in a tobacco factory, Eighteen were taken to the hospital. _ It is rumoured that the strikers introduced a chemical fume to prevent the strike-breakers working. YORKSHIRE MINERS. LONDON", March 29. Yorkshire miners have decided not to suspend their notices pending a conference. They are 120,000 strong. AN AGRICULTURAL UNION. ' STARTED IN OTAGO. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 30. At a meeting; in trades hall this eveniing it was decided to form a union of agricultural and pastoral workers, othen than shearers and slied hands, to be registered under, the Arbitration Act. Twenty-five members were enrolled at the meeting and office bearers were elected. Mr« G. Bruce, secretary and organiser, leaves for the south tomorrow to undertake organising work.
