William Jennings Bryan, who was horn at Salem, Illinois, and was 54 years.of age on Thursday last, his home being at Lincoln, Nebraska, in acknowledging birthday greetings from the people of Nebraska, said — "It seems likely that fully one-half of the peoples of the world will be linked together by peace proposals binding them to investigate a quarrel before resorting to war. Thirteen peace .treaties have already been signed."
