CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS SINGLES. T. EDWARDS WINS. The above competition; was held on the Timaru Club's green yesterday afternoon, and though the enjoyment of i the game was somewhat marred by the rain, a large and enthusiastic crowd of bowlers assembled to watch the play, which was of a high order in most of I the games. Punctually at 12.30 Mr R. Orwin I (President of the Centre) and Mr D. A. Morgan (Vice-Pres-ident) had every-j thing ready for a start, and the games were got off without any delays. j First Round. j T. Edwards (Temuka) v. A. On the ?th head 5 all was the score, while the 14th head showed 11-10 in favour of Edwards. On the 20tli head Edwards was 19-16, but Chapman made a big effort to get the 3 points. On three heads Edwards was lying one on the jack, but Chapman "burnt" each one with fast drives. At the fourth attempt, however, the head was not burned,. and Edwards scored one and won by 20-16. (Mr R. Orwin, umpire.) A. C. Jones (Kia -Toa) v. G. The play was close, Snd some beautiful drawing was witnessed. ; Aitken-led by 6-4 on the 7th head. On the 9th head Aitken had four shots round the jack, and Dewar with a fast one. took the jack into the ditch nnd scored four. For the next few heads Dewar had the best of matters, end

the score at the 14th head Was 11-3. Aitken scored -three and looked like repeating the score., but Dewar got shot with his last bowl. One went to Dewar on the 6th head, Edwards saving two with has last bowl. On the next head Dewar again had 3 shots, but Edwards came with a nice trail and got 3 making the scare 7—6 in favour of Dewar. Up to this stage the game had been a good one. Dewar especially playing well. Edwards's turn had now come. He put up short heads and played consistently, while Dewar was too strong and did not seem able to negotiate the short heads. Edwards had 3on the Bth head, and Dewar trailed the jack but did not hold it and two went to Edwards. With three against him Dewar drove, but missed, and drew 2nd with his laijt bowl. Four twos went to Edwards on the next four heads. The rain was very heavy at this stage, and Dewar did not seem to overcome the conditions. Two more heads went to the Temuka man, and Dewar gave up, with two or three heads still to play. Edwards 21. Dewar 8 was the final score. (Mr R. Orwin, umpire.) Mr R. Orwin, president of the South Canterbury Centre, congratulated Mr Edwards on his win which he had thoroughly deserved. This was the second occasion on which, a champion of champion!* match had been held in Tiniaru. and he was sure that the interest and enthusiasm which had been shown, by the large crowd of bowlem present proved that the Centre had decided wisely when they inaugurated the competition. He also congratulated Mr Dewar, the run-ner-up, and was sure that if he kept up the form he had shown that day he would be the champion of champions for 1915. Mr Orwin then presented Mr Edwards with the trophy donated by the Centre, and called, for cheers for the champion and runner-up, and these were enthusiastically given. Mr Edwards (who received an ovation i on rising to reply) thanked those present for the manner in which they had received his win. He was proud to have won the honour, but regretted that the rain had spolit the play in the final to a great extent.
