CORRESPONDENCE

THE DOG NUISANCE. To the Edttor- " Tbiaru Herald." Sir, —I wish .to ask the columns of your valuable paper if there as any by-law for the .destruction of dogci which have proved themselves a nuisance to the public. In York street there is a dog which barks almost'incessantly day and night, and is a great annoyance to a large number of residents . m this vicinity. Perhaps the b&rkmg and yelping of this dog may be music to his owner, but myself and a nun-ber of others are just sick of rfc, and hope lie owner will take the hint and remove the animal to save further annoyance.—l am, etc., AGONY No. 2. THE NORTHERN OUTFALL. To the Editor. "Tpußtr Herai.d." S:r,—ln your issue of 30th September appears a report of the special meeting of the Tiinaru Borough Council held on the previous evening -to deal with -Mr Cuthbert's opinion on the northern outfall, and we notice that Mr Logan, who was in charge of this special work, makes the assertion that tne Monier pipes made under his supervision are superior to those made by us. The decision to manufacture these on the spot was a matter for the judgment of the Council; but regarding Mr Logan's assertion we certainly think that nj man should make such a statement without producing verifiable data to support it. Further, Mr Logan offers £5 to any hospital if it can bo shown that the pipes used in this work are not as good as any made elsewhere. We gladly accept Mr Logan's chaT.enrre. We Willi give £ls to the Timaru Hospital if tests prove the assertion that his Monier pipes are superior to ours, and £lO to the same institution if his pipes prove oven equal to ours. Our only stipulations are that the testa' be carried out in our presence, and in order to meet tho of the tests each side put down £lO, the losing side to forfeit both deposits. We enclose herewith our cheque for £25, and if Mr Logan will send you his cheque for £ls, arrangements can then be made for carrying out the tests.—We are, etc., P.-McSKIMMING.AND SON. rOu'r correspondents have omitted to enclose - the cheque.—Editor, "Timaru Herald."]
