The steamer Gardenia collided with the collier Cornwood in a fog in the North Sea. The Gardenia sank in four minutes. Before the boots could bs lowered the boilers splitting the vessel. Four of the c-ew were saved clinging to the wreckage, and eighteen are missing. FATAL MANOEUVRES. RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 5. A steamer colEded with and sank a military -tug which was following the manoeuvres of the fleet. It is feared that thirty 'were drowned.
