COMMERCIAL.

STUDHOLME SALEYARDS. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting oo shareholders in the istudnolnie Junction Saleyards Company was held on Friday, iitith September. Mr "W. Hayman, chairman of directors, occupied the chair. The directors' report showed that the receipts from yard fees were £ls9' 14s, and dipping fees £lO6 4s for the year. A suite of offices and telephone room were erected during the year in the sheep yards for the use of auctioneers and their clients, it was decided to pay a dividend of 0 per cent. The chairman stated that the directors were aware that buyers of fat stock at sales held on Fridays were at • a disadvantage, as sheep bought then were not usually killed until Monday, and were thus reduced in value through four days starvation. The South Canterbury Auctioneers' Association, who assume control of sale dates, had been approached in the matter, and .'after conferences and a good deal of correspondence, information was received that on and after "Wednesday, 3rd December, sales would be held at Studholme Junction on Wednesdays. The retiring directors, Messrs W. Hayman, John Foley, and H. Ruddenklau, were duly re-elected, and Mr Peter Hunter was elected in place of Mr G. Hunter, who had left the district.

THE MART. Messrs O'Callaghan and LeCren report as follows:—Our entry of poultry was only fair, but prices were again m sellers' favour. We have good inquiry for poultry, ducks, especially, if prime, are worth up to 6s per pair. We can do with a fair number at once. We sold as follows: Poultry.—Hens at 2s 6d, 2s 9d, 3s, 3s 3d, 3s 6d, 3s 9d, 4s, 4s 3d; roosters 3s 6d, 4s, 4s 6d, 4s 9d, ss, 5s 3d, all at per pair. Hens with chickens realised lis.

Pigs.—The demand is' good. For forward lots, according to size, we sold at 10s, 12&, 16s, 18s, 20s, 20s 6d. Vegetables sold at ruling rates. Gamekeeper seed potatoes 4s per sack sacks in. Good table Up-to-dates', picked over, we. have sold a fair quantity at equal to 40s on trucks near stations, and we could do with a fair quantity at this price. We held a very successful sale of household furniture and effects on account of various clients,the principal items being—four-piece oak bedroom suite £26 10s, oak dining suite (seven pieces) £l2 10s, saddlebag suite £l2 ss, wardrobes £4 and £3 17s 6d, sideboards £7 10s, £3 17s 6d, £3 10s, also a large quantity of general furniture at ruling rates. THE RJALToT H. AHchurch and Co. report a fair number of birds forward for Saturday's poultry sale, when prices were very firm .-—Hens,' 2s 9d, 3s, 3s 3d, 3s 6d, 3s 9d, 4s, 4s 9d; pullets (white Leerhorns), 2s 6d, 3s 3d, 4s 4d; roosters, 4s 9d, 5s 2d, 5s 3d, 5s 4d, 5s sd; ducks, 6s (all at per pair). Rhubarb, 4d per bundle, 3s per doz; spring cabbage, Is 3d a doz; strawberry plants, 3s a hundred; pig potatoes, Is to Is 8d per sack; table do., 4s 6d, ss, 5s 6d, 6s per sack; fowl wheat, 9a 6d per sack.

TATTERSALL'S REPORT. There was a very good attendance, and bidding was spirited, ihe reserves were offered in one Week, the total area ..being 1397 acres, and the term of lease, nine months. Bidding commenced at the upset, nam«By, , 4s 6d per acre, and after spirited competrtion 3 t was knocked down to Air J. Drmnan, at 6s Id per acre. This works out at a fraction over 8s Id par acre per annum.
