BOWLERS' GOSSIP.

. The Karari and Seatoun Clubs (Wellington* opened the season on Saturday last. A smoke concert will be held in the Kia Tea pavilion oh Thursday evening nest- - Members are, requested to be present at 8r p:ml sharp. will regret to learn that Mr Rifchings Grant, the genial secretary of .the Kia Toa Club, is at present indisposed; and has found it necessary to givr nj> his dual position of green supervisoor and secretary of the Club for ..a time. Canterbury .Centre," have levied Is per member on chain for this season. It should be noted, however, that half of this amount goes to the Dominion Association. The Centre has thtfs to carry on the management of the sport for the yeftr, and entertain .^he.-visiting teams on the sum of <sd par head—amounting probably "to about £9. At a meeting of the executive of the Kia Toa Club it was decided to "open th<freen for the season on Thursday, Octo er 16th. Mr C. S. Howard was appointed as green supervisor, and Mr D. Brown secretary during Mr Grant's absence. At the annual meeting of the Yic'fcoriat Park Club (Sydney), the following- motion was -' agreed to —" That a jreeeial general meeting bo called" to elect 20 players, who shall meet and select~the four pennant rinks, .and that the rinks for the B competition be chosen similarlv." When will the problem of selection of teams bo eolved? '■-'■ •-■ - •■

At= the annual* meetings of'the Wellington Club,- it was decided that the use of the green be given to ladies on every afternoon but Saturdays and holidays from 2 to o. at a yearly subscription of 255, but that they "make use of the upper part, of the pavilion: only, and not encroach, on the mem.bers 1 part. ThefT Dominion 0 f New Zealand Bowling Association has fixed the levy on clubs for the coming year at 6d perFor this amount every member of 'each club throughout the minion will receivo. a copy of the Constitution -of the Association, rules of the Association, and laws of the game:'; This arrangement should supply 9. longrfelt want, and.is one of the 4 ."blessings" of amalgamation,.- - which was held on 'iiesdasr-evening to endeavour to form a "club for Timaru West, decided to-make a systematic canvass of the residents of the district. Should the canvass bo ihorotighly undertaken, there » not £he slightest doubt but that the ven-

ture will be successful. It has been said that there is not room enough for another club in Timaru, but that is a mistake. li> should be noted that while the existing clubs may lose a few members each, the great majority of members who join the new club will be xesu dents in the immediate vicinity of the green, wbo have never played the game, or are likely to play unless a green is formed somewhere in the district, which is a very large and growing one. The promoters will have the best wishes of the howling fraternity of South Canterbury for the success of their efforts. It is stated that the Council of the Dominion Association has decided against composition bowls. The composition or "Excelite" bowl has been approved by the Scottish and English Associations. The Australian Bowling Association has \ also recognised the moulded production. Some of the Australian bowlers who toured Great Britain last season, brought some of those bowls back with them, and they seem to have given satisfaction. The disqualification of these bowls in New Zealand, means that bowlers who have already secured them (there are a few sets in the Dominion), and those who have ordered them for the coming season will be disappointed, and put to needless expenditure; No doubt more will be heard of this matter. Bowlers should note that only wooden bowls can be used in "Association matches in , New Zealand.
