BALL AT HUNTER.

The young ladies o£ Hunter entertained tlie.r fr;ends at tne.r animal ball on Friday, September 26th. The. Library Hall was very tastefully decorated with ferns and japonioa for the occasion. Invitations were accepted from far and near, and favoured by a beautiful evening, about forty couples took part in the Grand March, which was led by the secretary, Miss A. Stanley, and Mr B.' Wilson. Messrs Arthur Jackson and W. King acted as M'.-.C.. in their usual courteous and efficient manner. Excellent music was supplied by Miss Williams, of St. Andrews; "extras" being kindly played by the Misses Stanley, Martin, and Jackson, and Messrs Jackson (4). Early in the evening delicious fruit salad was handed round- by the young ladies, and was much appreciated. A dainty supper was served at 11.30 p.m., and another about 2.30 a.m., everyone doing full justice to the good things provided by the caterer, Mr Barford, of Waimate. Among these present were friends from Waimate, Timaru, St. Andrews, Makikihi and other places, while the lovely dresses worn by the ladies made the hall look quite like a fairy scene. The many friends of Miss Mercer were pleased to see her amongst them again, and quite recovered from the accident which happened to her some time ago. The young ladies spared no effoi-t to .make the evening most enjoyable to all, and must have been well pleased with the many appreciative remarks heard durr ing, th© evening, no sm'all part of the success being -due to the indefatigable secretary. During the evening songs were sung by M ; ss Stanley, and Messrs K. Kearton and T. Ayers. The gathering broke up about 4 a.m., the tired bu+ happy guests voting the 1913 ball a complete success.
