Mr, Mrs and Miss Fergus, who were staying at the Hydro, returned to Dunedin oh Monday. Mr and Mrs Inglis have taken Mr R. R. Taylor's house in North Street. Mrs Havter comes in to-day to be present at" "Milestones" this evening, and will be the guest of Mrs R. T. Bruce. Miss Giles has returned from Auckland, and is staying with Mr and Mrs Giles, Otiritdri. Mrs Leslie Orbell came, back from Dunedin on Tuesday. , Mr 3 Cradoch left for Cheviot on Thursday, and Miss Malfroy for Wellington, on Monday. , Mrs Day got back on Thursday from a short visit to Oamaru. Mr and Miss Knubley go down to Dunedin on Monday,, for: Mr Walter Raymond's wedding . Mrs Loughnan, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs ; J. P. Newman. Mr and Mrs Murray (North Canterbury), are with Mr and Mrs George Murray, Sarah Street. Mrs Wakely, Christchurch, is staying with Mrs O'Meeghan. • Mrs Gray, Wellington, is the guest of Miss Cocks, Maltby Avenue. Mrs Webstor, Geraldine, spent last weak end with Mr and Mrs C. E. Morris.

Mrs C. H. Ensor, North Canterbury, and M.S3 Kirk, Christchurch, are at Sefton House.

Miss Ashcroft, who was the guest of Mrs Jacob, has returned to Wanganui. Mrs Frank Raymond leaves early nest week for a holiday in the North.

Mrs Cox, who has been playing in the golf championships, returns from the North "to-day. Mrs Owen Blackler and Miss Balfour motored in to town, and are staying at the Hydro. Mrs'Balfour, Mansefield, is staying at the Hvdro.

Mrs Balfour, of Wanganui, who has been visiting friends in South Canterbury, is now staying at the Hydro Grand. Tha second annual ball of the Phmket Society takes place in the Assembly Rooms in the afternoon and evening of October 10th. Much interest is being taken iri this dance, and ir.any original fancy dresses are being designed for the children. The South Canterbury Art Society's exhibition will be -opened at the Technical School on Tuesday, October the 14th, at 8 p.m., and will be well worth going to see. Soma valuable works of art, curios, etc., have been lent, as well as some very fine British and Continental pictures, among these bo r ng the H.M.S. New Zealand, by W. L. Wyllie, R.A. The committee will be very, pleased to receive further exhibits of all kinds. A very pretty redding was celebrated on bepcember lOtn, at the residence of Mr \v. Watson, "Asnton House," ■Mareiiweil, wiien iUiss Elsie Double, of Pieasant Point, was united in the holy boiids of matrimony, to Mr B. Sullivan, also of Pleasant Point. The bride was attended by her sisters, Miss F. and M Double, while Mr M. Horgan acted as best man. The Rev. King, of Pleasant Point was the officiating clergyman.
