SCHOOL COMFORTS.

LOW PRESSURE HEATItra SYSTEM. . AT SACRED HEART CONVENT. Always anxious.;- to give the maximum of comfort to the children under their care the Nuns of the Sacred Heart Convent have recently installed one of the largest and most up-to-date heating systems to be found in the Dominion. The mode of heating adopted is low-pressure, hot water, the "Ideal" system being considered most efficient. The engineers have just completed the .. final tests, and everything is working very satisfactorily. The hygenic ' advantages of a low pressure water heating plant are not shared by any other system of heating, and the fact that this method of heating is adopted nowadays by every hospital and similar establishment is conclusive evidence of the value attached to it by the medical profession.

The system at the Convent is set to maintain a temperature of 60deg. Fahr. inside, when the outside registers 30deg. arid gives a mean .water temperature at the boiler of 150deg. Fahr. There are no cold rooms, entrance halls, corridors, or dormitories.—the whole space throughout the large bunding is evenly warmed by eighty-three radiators, a thermometer varying but a degree or two ait' any point in the interior of the convent. No sudden fall in the room temperature can take place during the night, for the fuel capacity of the boiler is sufficient to maintain a fire from eight to twelve hours without attention. No more fuel is used than the amount needed to warm the air to the degree desired. The radiators are easiiy regulated in each room, and any number can be turned on or off by a valve at each radiator, without affecting the perfect operation of the remainder of the system. Messrs Lusk and Moriarty supervised the installation of this piant, which was carried out by Messrs Scott Bros.
