PLUMBING CHARGES.
To the Editor, " Timaru Heraj.d." Sir, —For "the man in the street" the above is to-day 110 uncommon topic, and as usual there are retailed out what is generally considered greatly exaggerated statements of the high cost of this class of work. In looking over the report- of the meeting of the Board of Education I eeo there something that lias made the seemly exaggerated statements a stern reality. The work of plumbing for the AVaimataitai School has been tendered for by Mr Burtenshaw for £24 9s 6d and iivo other tenders which average £49. Surely, over and above the profit that Mr Burtenshaw expects to make, the plumbers are not making the public of Timaru pay ;inother 100 per cent, extra nrnfit. I am afraid the plumbers arc inviting outside competition with a vengeance and will soon be rewarded.—l am, etc.,
