Commissioner Cullen, of the Police Force, paissed through Timaru by the second express for the north yesterday. At a meeting of the Presbyterian- 1 Cinirch selection committee, Duntroon, held last Sunday, it was decided. .to give a call to the Rev. Alex. Sangster. Mr Walter Panton, who is a very old friend of Sir Joseph Ward, was tlio lirst to greet him on his arrival here yesterday, and' Sir Joseph was evidently pleased to meet on© of his staunchest friends of his early days in Southland, at Timaru. A Napier telegram reports the death of Mr J. J. Niveii, one of the founders of the iSiven engineering works, aged (il). He was,a member of the engineering Commission- appointed by the Seddon Government to report cm railway workshops plant, a member of the Napier Harbour Board, Borough Council, and Lioensing B^nch. Sir Joseph Ward told a "Herald" reporter yesterday that he had benefited considerably from a health point of view as a result of Iris visit Home. For some time before leaving the Dominion he had suffered from an affection of the teeth and gums, but as a result of a visit to a specialist at Home—a man who has the largest professional income in England— he had been completely cured. Curiously enough, the cure to the teeth and gums had been effected through injec- ■ tions in bis arm, and since this his general health had improved until it was now all that he could desire.
